Undersampled Helium Atom Microscopy for resolution enhancement

Researchers: Bill Allison, John Ellis, Anders Hansen, Andrew Jardine, Donald MacLaren (University of Glasgow), Bogdan Roman

Highly accurate observation of the dynamics of atoms and molecules is vital for Helium Atom Scattering methods to enable advanced electronics, such as organic hybrid semiconductors for sensors used in many industries, including healthcare. The acquisition process is typically lengthy which can degrade the sample, while reconstruction technique typically rely on approximations applied in separate regimes, limiting the accuracy of the reconstruction of surface phonons and diffusion. Enhanced time-resolution is highly desired in order to clearly characterize surface dynamics, a difficult feat to achieve with state of the art tools.
